| Fraud | Pregnancy Turns Out to Be a Scam

In today's society, love scams are not uncommon. When the fog of emotions engulfs, people often get blinded by feelings, neglecting rational thinking. However, behind these seemingly sincere feelings, there might be ruthless frauds hidden, which is lamentable. The countless social cases constantly remind us to keep a clear mind and calm judgment in any situation. This is not only a way to protect ourselves from harm but also an important part of maintaining social order.

Case Background

Xiaode and Xiaoyi entered into a relationship a year after they met. During this period, Xiaoyi repeatedly requested funds from Xiaode, citing reasons like needing to care for seriously ill family members and medical supplies. Because Xiaode deeply loved Xiaoyi, he helped her without suspicion. Unexpectedly, Xiaoyi became addicted to it and continued to ask for money under various pretexts such as travel and birthdays. Gradually, Xiaode began to notice something was off and refused to provide more money. Unexpectedly, a few days later, Xiaoyi claimed to be pregnant and even provided related documents to prove it to Xiaode. Hence, Xiaode had no choice but to continue providing living expenses and other support. However, the truth eventually came out that Xiaoyi was never pregnant, and Xiaode found out. Enraged, Xiaode came to our firm seeking legal assistance to file a lawsuit.

District Court: Guilty Verdict

The investigation revealed that the pregnancy proof provided by Xiaoyi was obtained online, and the supposedly seriously ill family member had long since passed away. However, she continued to use this excuse to request medical funds from Xiaode. According to Article 339, Paragraph 1 of the Criminal Code, Xiaoyi used various false reasons to commit fraud, infringing on Xiaode's property, causing him to hand over his property under false pretenses. She continued to deny the crime without any remorse, thus committing the crime of fraud under the Criminal Code. Thanks to the extensive evidence and investigation provided by our firm's lawyers, the court fortunately accepted it and found her guilty, supporting Xiaode's legitimate claims and granting the victim the legal protection and compensation deserved.
